Mira Niculescu is the founder of Neshama, a Jewish spirituality and meditation project based in France. Born in 1980 in Paris to a French-Romanian family and raised in a secular environment, she came closer to Judaism as a young adult, moved by a deep intuition of the beauty and meaning of Jewish Spirituality, behind Jewish rituals and texts, and by the desire to live along those lines.
An alumna of the Drisha Institute of Jewish Education in New York and of the Section Normale des Etudes Juives (Snej), a program from the Alliance Francaise in Paris, and a certified Jewish Mindfulness teacher (JMT) from the Institute of Jewish Spirituality (IJS), she has worked successfully over the last two years at introducing hundreds of French Jews to Jewish meditation taught in every possible setting, and thousands to a new way of talking about Torah through weekly videos that she posts of Facebook.
A former Limmud France board member, she is a Nahum Goldman Fellowship and a Junction community member, and the cofounder of the Paris Carlebach minyan, that hosts monthly kabbalat shabbat and diners for young Jewish professionals.
At “Connect”, the first Schusterman event held in France in September 2016, she led Yoga and Jewish meditation workshops and spoke at the closing Panel on Jewish Innovation.
In January 2016, leading French Jewish Newspaper “Actu J” named her one of the three faces of Judaism in France.
She is currently a Yesod European Fellow and experiential Educator at the Pardes Institute of Jewish studies in Jerusalem, while completing a Phd on Judaism, Buddhism, and the revival of Jewish meditation at the Ecole de Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris
She publishes articles and paintings on Jewish thought and Jewish life in various journals, including Tenou'a, a French foremost Journal of Jewish thought and Art, and the Pardes Blog.
In 5776, she is one of the commentators of the weekly Parasha for French leading Jewish Learning Website Akadem.
In March 2017, she was a guest teacher at the second International Jewish spirituality retreat and conference organized in California by the IJS with today's world leading Meditation teachers.
