The spiritual exercises of the Aish Kodesh

Rabbi Kalonymous Kalman Shapiro was the rabbi of the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II.

He was a Hassid and a spiritual teacher, and he had written a guide of spiritual practices: ‘Bnei Marchava Tova’ (“the sons of right thinking).

Sensing the end was coming, he buried his writings in the ground of the ghetto. They were found in the sixties, and have been translated into English.

During this cycle of study we will study and implement together the teachings of the Aish Kodesh as taught in this manual.

The Shmone Prakim of Maimonides

The Shmonei Prakim of Maimonides, the introductory chapters to his commentary of the Pirke Avot, are considered the first treaty of Jewish psychology.

Hitbonenout is a technique of Jewish meditation that consists in contemplating a text introspectively in order to better get its meaning, from within.

In this cycle, we study these chapter via the Jewish meditation technique of Hitbonenut, in order to let it have a truly transformative impact on us.

Each session is comprised of a reading of the text (Hebrew and French) and a guided meditation on the theme expressed in our reading.

Rosh Hodesh Ladies Group

Rosh Hodesh, literally the head of the month, is the first day of each month.

Because the jewish calendar is connected to the moon, the first day of the month is traditionally understood as the day of the woman.

The Rosh Hodesh ladies group is a group of women who wish to share their reflections on the month passed and the month ahead.

Through meditation and self inquiry, we look at our lives and work on improving our ethical qualities, our relationships, our well being. As we witness and accompany each other’s evolution, we celebrate together what it is like to be a woman in Judaism.

The aim of this group is to encourage each of us to take leadership: each month, the reunion is organized by a member of the group, who hosts the group around a cup of tea, offers a teaching or a reading she would like to share, and moderates the reunion.

Kosher Yoga

« Yech hohma BaGoyim » : “There is wisdom among the nations.”

Torah allows us to borrow practices to other traditions when they can be beneficial to us, as long as they don’t contradict our basic principles.

It is according to this frame that Jews can practice yoga, a physical exercise originating in the Hindu tradition, based on sequences of postures coordinated with the breath.

Practiced on a regular basis, it reinforces the muscles, increases flexibility, and detoxes the whole system, so that you will retrieve your original energy, relaxation, and pure well-being.
